What is Living Warriors Project?
Living Warriors is a community peer support project, independently run and not affiliated with any charity or organisation. Founded by people with lived experience of attempted suicide, we welcome people from all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive, non-judgemental space. Rooted in peer support principles, we recognise the value of shared experiences in fostering understanding, connection, and personal growth. Our ethos is based on radical acceptance and openness, ensuring that everyone’s journey is acknowledged and respected. The project has two main aims: to run monthly peer support groups for survivors of attempted suicide and to partake in suicide awareness and prevention advocacy and research.
What can I expect from a group session?
When you arrive, you will be welcomed by Nic and Iona, who will guide you to the room. Our gatherings are small, usually no more than six people, to create a sense of trust and support. We offer a relaxed space where you can enjoy tea, coffee, and biscuits, with a short break midway through. Sessions are a mix of open discussion, self-reflection, and creative activities, ending with a brief check-in to reflect on the session. Respect, empathy, and trust guide our time together. We listen without interruption, share experiences mindfully, and avoid offering unsolicited advice. Personal boundaries are always honoured, including physical space and consent. We also remain mindful of time, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to contribute if they wish. There is no pressure to speak, and everyone is welcome to participate in whatever way feels right for them.
Will group sessions mention suicide?
In many support spaces, discussing suicide or related experiences can feel difficult, and in some cases, it may be frowned upon or not allowed. At Living Warriors, we give you explicit permission to talk about suicide and the feelings surrounding it. You are invited to share your thoughts and experiences openly, knowing your words will be met with care, understanding, and respect. While we encourage meaningful conversations, we are mindful of how we share, avoiding graphic details and instead focusing on the broader journey of acceptance and exploration.
What else does Living Warriors Project do?
We also take part in various aspects of advocacy surrounding survivors of attempted suicide. Through our efforts, we aim to raise awareness, promote understanding, and fight for better support and resources for those who have lived through such experiences.
Above all, Living Warriors is a place where you are met exactly as you are, a space to be heard, to reflect, and to connect with others who understand.
